Crockpot Ribs - "Little Pieces of Heaven"

For those of you who know me well, you know I love to use my crock pot!    Here is a crock pot recipe that is sure to please.   This is one of Mike's favorite things that I make and he's nicknamed them, "Little Pieces of Heaven".

You need:
  • 1-2 slabs of ribs (I get mine at Trader Joes - they are the best)
  • 1 can of Coke or Dr. Pepper
  • Sweet Baby Rays BBQ Sauce
  • Salt and Pepper to Taste
Directions:First, take out your crock pot.  I love to use Reynolds Slow Cooker Liners for easy clean up!   Next place your slabs of ribs in the crock pot.

Next, add in your can of pop.  I usually use Coke, however, on Friday we only had Dr. Pepper.   So I tried Dr. Pepper and the results were fabulous.

Next add salt and pepper to your ribs.  I just sprinkle it on top... not too much!

Next, cover your crock pot and set it on low for 8 hours.

After 8 hours, or whenever you get home from work, drain our the pop.

Keep the Ribs in the crock pot and smother them with Sweet Baby Rays BBQ Sauce.   I just try to make sure that all of the ribs are covered in Sauce.   Be careful however, because the ribs are so tender they tend to fall off the bone.
Once your ribs are coated in BBQ sauce, cover back up your crock pot and cook your ribs on high for 1 hour.

After an hour, take them out carefully to serve!    The ribs tend to fall off the bone so be gentle taking them out.

Enjoy!   Don't forget to have some napkins handy!

If you try this recipe, leave me a comment and let me know how it goes.   Good luck! :)

  5. Is the liner necessary or optional?

    1. I would guess it's probably optional but would make clean up so much easier.

    2. 1. If you don't use the liner, make sure you spray with non cooking spray. The liner makes it so much easier with clean up. I never use my crock pot without it.
      2. I have been making my ribs this way for so many years now. I found it in a Betty Crocker Crock Pot Recipe Book. You literally have to spoon them out because they do fall off the bone. OH SO GOOD.

    3. I have 2 diabetics at home could I use diet coke?

  6. I personally don't want to have my ribs "fall off the bone". However, this still looks great. I will just decrease the cooking time. Thanks for sharing.

  7. The liners are not necessary. The fall of the bone is pretty amazing, but I'm sure decreasing the cooking time would help with making them not as tender. Good luck!

  13. Do you put the ribs in frozen or thawed?

    ReplyDelete

    1. They'd have to be thawed or you couldn't roll them to fit the crockpot :)

  14. Same question as Nicole....Are these ribs frozen or thawed?

  15. I've never made ribs before and my daughter wants them for her 11 birthday tomorrow. I'm going to try this recipe since it seems foolproof and has great reviews. Wish me luck!

  16. I tried the ribs but I use Pepsi and they turned out great thank you so much.

  17. Since the pucture shows the ribs being flexible, I would assume this recipe is for ribs that are raw, thawed if frozen.

    1. My family's standards with food is borderline ridiculous so this recipe still impressed me. Thank you for posting a recipe with great follow-through. Not all of them on Pinterest do that.

  35. Hello there from Down Under - would using DRY GINGER be ok - as this is all I have ??? Thanks for the recipe :)

    ReplyDelete
  36. I have a recipe for pot roast that uses dry Ginger Ale - would probably be fine. I think it's the sweetness of the soda pop that adds to the "fall off the bone" sweetness - plus you will be using the BBQ sauce at the end. Should be fine

  37. This does not disappoint. Maybe the best ribs we have ever made. It quickly became a favorite

  42. Sooo, I tried this recipe as the crockpot has been my new best friend (broken foot unable to stand long)...And let me just say I was very skeptical. I used Diet Dr. Pepper and my own dry rub...Cooked on low for 4 hours high for 2 and the last hour drained and added the sauce. Let me just say these came out fantastic!! will make this again thanks so much for this recipe!!

  46. Do the ribs have to be cooked covered in the soda or is it ok to have one side sticking out? I'm feeling like I have to flip the ribs.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I used Dr Pepper and brown sugar, let them cook, then finished them on the grill with the BBQ sauce. To let the sugars caramelize and add more flavor. It's the only way I'll do them now.

    ReplyDelete
  48. what about putting them under the broiler for a few minutes?

    ReplyDelete
  49. I have made these several times, soooo good and cannot get much easier. I used diet doctor pepper and have also used root beer and turned out great. The left overs make great BBQ sandwiches!!

  50. Has anyone tried making these using Zyng for the carbonated soda?

    ReplyDelete
  51. I was wondering if anyone had tried Mr. Pibb Extra. It's a spicy cherry soda. Have cooked these many times and they always turn out fabulous. Baby Rays is THE best sauce.

  52. These are great. After putting the sauce on we have put them on the grill or in the oven. The sauce sticks to the ribs - yum!
